my '94 302 won't turn over!@#% The rig was running fine this afternoon, but now she just won't turn! I'm getting all lights, access, etc., but nothing happens when the key gets turned. No clicks, whirls, nothing... ANy ideas?
Hi, You might start by checking the solinoid (switch) on the right fender. Get somebody to turn the key while you tap on the switch with a wrench or small hammer, just tap, don't hit hard. If that doesent work then maybe look at if the ignition wire at the switch gets hot when the ignition switch is turned. It could be your ignition switch or maybe a fuse or relay.
Do the lights, etc. stay on when you turn the key to run the starter?
If yes, probably mechanical (solenoid, starter), or possibly a loose positive lead from the ignition to the solenoid or starter.
If no, you may have a bad negative ground on the battery. The negtavice cable can't handle the ampage of the starter but works fine with lighter electric loads because it's only making partial contact. Clean both ends of the neg cable and where the ends connect to ( - battery term and block grounding bolt) Tighten the cable down tight on both ends and try starting again.
