Lift Kit Identification Help
I bought a used 2002 7.3L 4X4 excursion a few months back. I need some help trying to figure out this lift kit that is on the Excursion. I am very new to all of this and this is my first vehicle with a lift.
The reason I am trying to figure this out is that I feel it is in need of new shocks, and every thing online is asking me what size lift it is and i am not sure how to figure that out, is the size based of the blocks in the rear? or somewhere else? Do the Airbags play a roll in the lift size as well? What are the current shocks that are on it?
To many questions that I need help with. Any info would be of great help.
Many thanks in advance for anyone that can offer up some help.
It is pretty easy to gather how much taller than stock it is with said measurements.
Simply seeing a picture of the truck from the side most of us here with lifted trucks could pretty easily eyeball what lift you have, we've all seen a lot of different lifts.
For example BDS Suspension uses the exact same shocks for their 4" kit as they do for the 6" kit, here are the part numbers.
(2) 55650 Hydraulic Shock Absorber
(2) 55762 Hydraulic Shock Absorber
You can use their page to order by part number, make sure you get two of each

Or if you want some really good shocks you can get the FOX shocks, here are the part numbers for them

REAR:

Notice that the measurments are also provided for the fox shocks, you could take these measurements to another vendor and be all set.
Bilstien makes some great shocks and there are some other brands that are good also that people talk about all the time.
I would rather have more shock stuffed in there than less. What I mean is I'd rather have a shock designed for a 4"-6" lift than one that was designed for stock or 2" lift. More is just about always better, that is of course unless the shocks are way to long. My kit, 8" lift, takes longer shocks.
One more thing, the BDS shocks are OK, they handle well but the ride is stiff and jarring/bouncy at times. If you want a better ride consider some adjustable shocks, I forget the brand but I am sure someone will chime in about the adjustable ones, everyone around here seems to love them.
Also I've know people with Fox shocks and they love them, the price is steep but they last for ever, they can be serviced instead of replaced, the don't fade nearly as quickly has cheap shocks.
