I've been reading post on here and looking at different websites for a muffler for the 300, And so far i come up with the dyomax super turbo, has anyone used one or has one on now. Next thing it has a 3" inlet and 2 2.5 oulets is that too big for the 300 if i go with dual tail pipes, or would sound any different/ better running a singal 2.5 from the eng to the back of the truck??
I have a single in/out Dynomax Turbo Muffler on both of my Broncos with 300s and am really pleased with them. They're a 2.5" in/out with 2.5" from the engine to the tailpipe.
It's a general consensus that 2.25" or 2.5" single is ideal for the 300, and if you're going to go with dual out, you want 2" for each. Any bigger than that, and you lose scavenging. The 3" in, dual 2.5" out seems too big in my opinion.
I have true dual 2inch pipe straight from the EFI manifolds back with no cross-over or muffler. It is going to be getting a x pipe and muffler. I felt a little loss in low end torque but it likes to rev up a lot more and more top end. Not what I want for a straight six. Lightning style side exit.
i had a Flowmaster 40 series si/do, i recently change it to a magnaflow si/do the sound is a little quieter but you get on it you know im coming. But i miss the muscle car-y tone the flowmaster had so now im looking to re do the whole exhaust next year dual inlet dual outlet flowmaster 50 series with some sort of x pipe in there, i also have a exhaust cutout on my exhaust to run open header
thanks guys, i know that the 300 will never sound like a 351 or anything i just want something that would sound good but not be anoying going down the road or idling, i seen the exhaust clips but my computer speakers are not working, but anyway i really didnt wanna do duals i thought it would sound a lil better with all 6 going trough one pipe instead of 2
I just finished the exhaust on my '86. Used tube headers with 2.5" collectors. Necked down to 2.25" pipes, universal cats (2.25") from Ebay, 2.25" glasspack mufflers from Jegs (Red Hots or something. about 18" of muffler body). Dumped out in front of the right rear tire. No cross over pipe. True duals. System sounds good. Quiet at idle, but makes some noise as the revs increase. It's got some pop and cackle on decel which I think is cool. Seems to let the engine breath better than the stock system. Put a Offy DP and Holley 600cfm on at the same time. Can't really say if the low end torque has been impacted or not. Mostly it's a DD street truck. I pull a small utility trailer with two or three motorcycles on it, but nothing gianormous.
For the cost I'm happy with it.
Just an FYI, but the glasspacks have a "quiet" direction and a "less quiet" direction. I had mine installed in the "quiet" direction. Has to do with the direction of the inner baffles.
I just got my exhaust put on this morning, It's really quite right now almost like stock and when you step on it has a little bit of sound, so I figured it be a little for the exhaust to get broke in good. It's a dynomax super turbo with 2.25 pipe one in one out
