[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Sep-02 AT 08:01 PM (EST)]Have any of you guys ever taken the window motor apart and cleaned the armature. One of my windows runs fine sometimes and kinda slow at other times. I have recently worked on the gear in there and have lubed everything. So I was wondering if any of you had taken the motor apart and cleaned it up and gotten better performance from doing so. This is on my 89 BTW. Also what year motors will interchange with 89?
I had problems with the motor on my previous van, an '86. I couldn't find new brushes, so had to get a replacement motor from the local Ford dealer. $65 for a rebuilt. Check e-Bay, some guy had a few new ones going for $52 last week. I think the only difference is left and right.
Had a similar problem on my F-350. It would be slow or not work at all.
I removed the motor, took apart cleaned the commutator with real fine sandpaper. Cleaned the brushes (used electrical contact cleaner, with a lubricant). I also cleaned and re-greased both ends of the shaft and housing before reassembly. Ran 12v both ways to make sure it was working OK. Check manually the movement of the glass, lube every thing that moves inside the door panel.
Put the thing together and it has been fine for 6 months or so. If all else fails new motor at Advance is around $50.00 bucks.
