Unfortuantely no. Would this work for the troubleshooting?? If so I'll get one ordered ASAP. I've currently got a Snap-On Solus Pro Elite on order from my local dealer. It was on sale for $1995.00. All I've got now is an SCT 3015.
Do you have lots of keys on your keychain?
Or maybe your ignition switch is slightly worn
And is acting as if you shut off the engine.
Not sure if there is a circuit to monitor
To tell?
Good luck!
Not really but I did buy it used in the spring. Good idea though, I'll try driving it with just the ignition key for a bit and see what happens and let you guys know.
Ok so I picked up the new FICM relay this morning and that didn't resolve anything. I then tried with just the ignition key and it still happens. I'll just have to wait till the dreaded day comes and I'm stuck. Or fill the tank, take it to the dealer and let it idle all day while doing a data log of certain perameters. The reason I say that is it almost always happens while idling. Only a few times while driving very slow(10 - 20 Kms/hr).
In a similar thread, a Ford tech on another forum suggested to take the valve covers off and, with the truck idling, gently squeeze and wiggle the injector connectors and see if it shuts off. You might also want to inspect the injector wiring harness and verify that the FICM connectors are plugged in fully. However, I would think that these would throw a code as cheezit suggested earlier. If you ever have trouble re-starting it, I would be looking to see if you had FICM sync and Cam/Crank sync.
most of the ones i have found have either broken bolts that hold the coil pack to the body or the cross bolt that holds the coil pack from side to side

Great ideas! I'll start researching the how to on removing the valve covers. How much time should I plan for all this? What is FICM sync and Cam/Crank sync???? Is it basically a timing calibration?
Sync is just the "ready position" if you will .......... the PCM sees that everything is in order with the FICM and the Cam and Crank sensors. At least that is how I understand it.
Ok next step....I've been talking with some local ford techs and we're wondering if during an upload and download with my SCT the software got screwed up some how. I'm thinking for the little time and money it takes, get the ECM put back to a total stock configuration by the Ford Dealer and see what happens. I've tried all three flashes on the SCT with no luck. I don't have any custom tunes.....yet. What are your guys' thoughts? Then if this fixes it I can get the tuner reprogrammed or get some custom tunes on it.
The reason this whole thought process got brought up is when I first programmed the street tune with the SCT the truck would do the same thing at 1100 RPM...every time. Stock and Performance tunes were good but had a problem with just the Street tune. SCT repaired the problem and gave me some different software for the tuner. I'm thinking the same kind of thing is happening now but more intermittent than at a specific RPM.
Ok finally some head way.....possibly. I took the truck in yesterday to get the ECM reflashed and the tech found a logged code for the Exhaust Backpressure Sensor shorted out. He said he is confident this is my stalling issue because of the 5V reference wire is giving the short(which is shared with a bunch of other sensors)and shutting the engine down. He unplugged the sensor and gave the truck back to try for a day or two. Last night it stalled again for me so I'm assuming the short is in the harness. He said if it did to peel back the insulation about 6" and inspect the harness. Does this make sense to you guys? I'll be calling him today and let him know what happened to see what he says.
sadly the only thing that will get you there is what im suggesting... assuming im correct.
mike or vlonly may have other methods i dont know of.
i think this is the 3rd time in the thread i have said basicly its a shorting injector coil.
vref short will should not shut down an 05 or later truck, however it was a common issue in 03/04 but programing and pcm changes did away with that.
vref may put you in ivd mode however.
with this last bit of repeated info i can offer nothing else of value unless you attempt to do as i suggested so im out and wish you the best of luck
