I have been fighting tire wear problems on my 73 F100 for a while now. I thought I had it fixed by replacing everything in front end and new tires. I thought I just had a bad set of tires the first time.
Problem still exists. Only a couple thousand miles on new tires and I have sligh outside edge wear on fronts. Back tires are wearing in the center(fairly badly) and the tires are not over inflated and are on correct size wheels. Tires are 235/75/r15. A good alignment can probably correct the front issues...but what is going on with the back?
It would be a bad time to figure out that I have a bent frame when I already have thousands of dollars into this truck.
There may be an assumption the recommended air pressure is a working air pressure. Meaning, that it has a load. Therefore, it may actually be overinflated based on what you're carrying (or not carrying) as the case may be.
The PO of my 01 Super Crew used the max cold pressure on the sidewall as the regular pressure. It rode hard, twitchy, and the tires exhibited wear in the middle like yours. I lowered it 10 psi (to 34 psi) and it rides and drives much better. If I'm towing or hauling a long way, then I increase the pressure accordingly.
