Question Tire Air Pressure

What is the best air pressure for a 97 F150 2wd STX. The sticker for the truck says 26 in the front and 30 in the rear. ( I think) Or should I go with the pressure that is on the tires. I have 275/60R17 (factory size) Continental Sportiva and they say 40psi max on the tire.
With the price of gas anything can help. What does everyone else run for their pressure??????

I also heard of a local tire shop that will not put nitrogen into your tires so you have a more consistant air pressure level at all different temps. They are only charging $10 more with a tire rotation. Hey if NASCAR will use nitrogen in their tires, why not everyone elses??

Thanks
Pat

The recommended tire pressures are for standard equipment tires. Your sport tires obviously use higher pressures since the originals only had a max PSI of 35. So I would add 5 lbs to each of the recommended pressures or 35 all the way around. You could go with 40 if you want, and maybe get longer tread life from them, but the ride will be somewhat harsher.

I almost always put 35 psi in the tires on a F-150.
Nitrogen is good because it is drier than regular air, which means it will expand less when it gets hot, but unless you're racing your truck and need the pressures to stay constant I dont think it's a big issue.
Your pressures should be checked with the tires cold. When they are hot they will have more pressure in them.

I too would stay with 35psi. More than that and the front end will tend to wander a bit going down the road. I found this on my Stang and my 77 F150, they have tires that will go to 44 and 50 respectively, but when aired to those pressures, they tend to wander back and forth letting the road pull you around. I guess, with them real stiff, they don't properly flex and absorb imperfections in the road.
