sure slap u some headers on no problem
well the first problem we had to over come was the header up on the starter and starter post ,so I just took the easy way out on this and got a mini starter that had a adjustable base plate ,now the oilstick tube has no place to bolt to and forgot how far into the block it goes, been a year when it was torn down
checked online to see what others have done and some just beat it in and some rtv it in,so what is the FTE way?
thanks
btw its a 150 with a 390 and got the headers new but at a pawn shop for 50 euros so the brand is a big whonos
1. 'couldn't get a socket on engine mount to perch nut.... figured out that the engine was not sitting level.. solution? Plasma cutter! Result: cherry red metal landed on my neck. Overhead plasma cutting is not fun.
2. 'had to unbolt the right engine mount an jack up the engine. Header still wouldn't slip over the engine perch.
3. 'Unbolted the engine perch and then installed the header... then the engine perch didnt' have enough clearance to be reinstalled. 'had to install the perch trapped between tubes 2 and 3.
4. 'driver's side collector flange SUPER close to front driveshaft..... like 3/16th inch. To date, it has not scraped.
5. 'had to dimple tube 6 (or was it #7?) so it wouldn't rest against oil pan rail.
6. 'had to do acrobatics with the starter in order to reinstall it. I hope it does not have to be replaced any time soon cuz I still don't recall the twists and turns were required to get it back in.
hell I just bolted drivers side on loose passenger side I set in the frame. lowered the motor down in bolted the hedders on. drivers side I broke out the torch to heat the tubes up a little then used a *** a long to pull them over a pinch to clear the front drive shaft. passenger side sat just on the starter so I did the heat & which treatment on that one also now it clears the starter with just enough room to change it when needed now. it's a 77 F150 SWB 390/C6 headman hedders
great but...what about the darn dipstick?feel like i just need to beat it in place, that i'll show it
I've secure the dipstick with a small hoseclamp and spring so it doesn't pop out. But it's still not bolted like it use to be... it's on the to-do list.
I have a 2wd F100 with 360 and I have the hedman headers. I bolted the oil dipstick to the top front header bolt on the drivers side. I have to use a stud with a jam nut to make sure that the header was sealed tight to the head. What type of mini starter did you use on because I have the same problem with the header touching the starter lead?
this is the starter that i got from ebay ,fit nice and i like that i was able to rotate it to fit . looked kinda cheap online but it is very solid ,on the dip stick deal it looks like i can get a stud instead of the bolt and seams i was trying to over think it. thanks for all the replies
