I recently decided to upgrade my exhaust on my '78 f150 2wd with a 4speed toploader. I went with hedman long tube headers (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hed-89150) but at first the drivers side collector was hitting a crossmember. My friend and I cut out a small piece and welded the crossmember which fixed that clearance issue. However, the passenger side header caused interference with the stock starter in that the wire connection that goes from the starter to the solenoid was touching the header. I decided to replace the stock starter, which was CARQUEST or ToughOne Starter - Remanufactured 3154S: Advance Auto Parts.
I went with a B&M mini starter that allowed to clock the orientation of the facing plate. It is
The solenoid on the starter is not touch the header which is a relief but now the back of the starter which is the gray end of the starter touches the header.
I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has had any success installing long tube headers on a 302 with manual tranny on a '78 stock engine?
