Problems with 4x4 system (Help)

- 1994 F150
- 5.0l Automatic
- Cruise Control (Works)
- Push Button 4wd

- Nothing happening when 4x4 button pressed
- No light comes on
- no sound heard
- Fuses are good, can't about large one yet until I test it.
- Connection on the backside of the button switch is good.

I've been looking non-stop and really don't want to start another thread, but I really just want answers.

Questions
1. How likely is it that the switch has failed?
2. Does anyone have a link to a good step by step diagnosis. One with good pictures would be nice.
3. How do I find the shift control module to self test it?
4. What all should I be looking for and what if anything under the hood should I look for?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Search this forum and the Bronco forum for electric transfer case shift or push button transfer case, and you should find lots of reading...

Not likely, but possible.

Start with the shift controller self-test.
3. How do I find the shift control module to self test it?
Behind pass. side kickpanel.
4. What all should I be looking for and what if anything under the hood should I look for?
Wherever the self-test codes point you.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
It's common for the position encoder on the shift motor to crap out. Search for a how-to on repairing or replacing it.

Thank you,
See comments above. See if you get any codes back from the controller.

- I tested the shift control module.
- I Disconnected B and C and fallowed the online instructions.
- I got a normal result 4 blinks from the LED Light.

- Where should I check next?
- Right now, I know there is nothing happening according to the web posting I am reading I have a dead system.

I am going to replace the one large fuse I can not tell if it is good or not, then what would be next?

Thanks for the help so far.

That"s what I have been using so far, but after looking at the fuses and the shift control module, I am a little lost. Nothing is showing me red flags.

I have yet to find a reason why no lights are coming on and the system is acting completely dead. Just working as hard as I can on it.

I have manual locking hubs if that helps at all.

Thanks for the input.

Did you scroll down to and follow the,

Nothing Happens (Dead System) (diagnosis section).
aspect of that bulletin?

It outlines what to check and how to check what order to do so in.

From testing fuses, neutral safety switch to checking the lamps themselves etc etc.

You could try the basic tired and true vibrate the shift motor with a hammer couple times while someone hits the button trick but the fact nothing happens at all suggests a power supply issue of some sort rather then a stuck shift motor. Hammer trick usually comes into play when lamp lights then only flashes, that signifying motor got the message but didn't act or didn't move as far as commanded do so. likely reason no one suggested it so far.

Below is linked to from that page, perhaps you didn't see it. Should also prove to help if you don't have that information.
