93 Ford Ranger 4WD Controller
I'm sure I've read nearly every thread ever posted on the net regarding this problem & now I have a simple question.
When I test the controller (behind jump seat drivers side) w/ the key on & main plug connected w/ the other 2 disconnected I do not get any light, clicks, etc. I have power to the controller (blk/wht) & I have confirmed a good grnd (both Blk & Blk/Org wires).
Are those the only wires that have to have good connectivity to test the controller for lights (flash or steady) or do the other wires need good connectivity as well?
That connector includes the following wires:
Yellow - Elec Shift control module to Transfer case shift motor (Connection ?)
Orange - Elec Shift Control Module to Transfer Case Magectic Coil (Connection ?)
Blk/Org - From Elec Shift Control Module to Grnd (Good Continuity)
White/Purple - I'm not sure what this wire is for ?
Brown - Elec Shift Control Module to Transfer Case Shift Motor (Connection ?)
Blk - Ground (Good Continuity)
Blk/Wht - Hot to Elec Shift Control module (Good 12V)
Just want to make sure before I spend $550 (Ford) or go w/ Manual Tranfer Case.
Thanks, Del
I took it apart, don't we all, to see if there was anything obvious. Because I know nothing about circuit boards I didn't know what I was looking for but as I pressed the metal contactor where the white button would normally contact I noticed some residue (corrosion). I took a piece of very fine sandpaper & ran it between the metal contactor & the small bump underneath the contactor & then tested the system.
I now get 4 flashes so according to what I've read it's on to the Transfer Case Motor, does that sound right.
Del
