My rear a/c was always luke warm compared to the front that was cold but not ice cold. I did my research on the rear proair unit and found that the heat part never shuts off! No control door.
There is just a vaccuum operated heater shut off valve to control it. The return line is always open to the radiator though. i replaced the valve and still didn't have rear a/c.
It wasn't until i blocked off the rear heater lines that the rear a/c started working. As a bonus, the front air is significantly colder as well.
My take? Since the rear heater core was still connected to the radiator via the return line, the core was still 200 degrees. Even though it wasn't circulating, it was being slowly warmed from the front to the back.
This heat transfer was also taxing the standard system.
