hey guys new to the diesel world. so i could use some help. I'm having issues with my 85 f250 6.9l starting. the water in fuel light is on but when i pull the valve open nothing drains out. it started and ran for about 10seconds and then shut off. now it wont start at all. any clues on how to fix this? Thanks in advance for the help.
IIRC a dirty filter will cause the water in fuel light to stay on as well, so start by replacing the filter. then crank for a few seconds after replacing the filter (besure to fill it to the top as well) and have someone check the schrader valve on the filter head. if you have pressure there, crack a fuel line and see if your getting fuel to the lines. if you have no pressure at the schrader valve then its lift pump problems. if you have pressure there and not at the lines its the lift pump. check back after you have tried that. if you have fuel pressure at both of those points someone who knows more then me will chime in.
heres also something else you can check out too. mine that i have had with the 6.9 the fuel water seperator is on the fire wall driver side if it hasnt been modified ( at least i think thats what tht was ) but alot of the time when ever i pull that ring on the top of it my truck wouldnt start either and i just ended up bypassing it. not the best idea in the world but it could be a problem and i dont know if they make replacement ones for that might have to rig up on off a 7.3 and use it unless someone knows of one or where u could get one
