zf5 tranny problems

got a 90' f250, 7.3L with zf5 standard teanny. when clutch is disengaged their is a scraping sound but as soon as pressure is placed on pedal it stops. sounds like a bearing but not sure. Also while on the topic, while driving highway when im not constantly shifting the stick get a pretty good wobble going to it, dont think this is normal. Any help would be appreciated. and if it matters the clutch has never slipped on me and from what i have been told this is the original clutch in the truck but feels to me like pressure plate has been changed, never drove a ford with a clutch as stiff as mine.

Sounds like the throw out bearing to me. My truck also has the "stiff pedal". I have driven a 91 F-350 and a 97 powerstroke that both had the pedal also. It comes from the flywheel and pressure plate. The flywheel is spring loaded like the pressure plate, so I've been told. You can purchase a solid flywheel clutch kit and do away with the stiff pedal. Not sure about the spring flywheel, never replaced one, so I'm sure someone here can correct me if I am wrong. Just what I've been told. I have checked on the solid flywheel kits for my truck. They are cheaper than the other option.

Throw out bearing simple to change? guess that could explain why it jumps outta reverse all the time and is sometimes hard to get into first and second. is their any large advantage to the solid? besides a less stiff pedal, i do alot of city driving and get a hell of a leg workout driving haha

Could also be a loose mount underneath your truck.
Check all the bolts to make sure their nice and tight.

popping out of gear is probably bad synchronizers. Parts are pretty expensive and it is not an easy trans to work on.

Actually I have the ZF S5-42 in my 88 F250... it really is not that hard to work on provided you are comfortable with taking things apart and can remember where things go when you put it back together...

If you are not that comfortable with it... A digital camera is a MAJOR help

the only problems I have had out of mine was a bad synchro 1 time and a Detent that got stupid on another time (it got stuck in gear).

If you are located somewhere near Columbus OH I would be willing to help you out with fixing it.
