ABS light

I have a ABS light on on my 97. My snap on scanner does not go into the abs. How do I pull codes?

Safe to assume its in the same place as say 95-96 models?

Slightly left of center line of glove box door, just above the lower edge of the dash.

Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - View Single Post - abs question Some info here may help, although I believe his was a pre `92 truck so diagnostic connector was not behind the glovebox.
I think you should be looking for a black wire with an orange stripe plugged into a black wire.

Yea that is there too in the previous model years, be just to the left of that held in place by a plastic push pin. Is a chance they moved it for that model year but I don't know, just doesn't seem likely they would have reason too.

Is the rabs module in the same place in the 97 model? still mounted up high and behind the glove box? If so kinda suggest that diagnostic connector still be in the same place yet.

Brad, did you find the wire to check codes? I've also got an abs light on my 92 and you kinda inspired me to look into it. I did find a single black/orange wire behind the glovebox, but grounding it didnt make the light flash.

Was that wire connected to another wire? you had to unplug the two from each other first?

I had to get kinda aggressive to get mine to spew forth the code, key on grounding the wire repeatedly few time before it'd start flashing.

I used the center dash support bolt.

Warning as to fact blow a fuse if ground out wrong matting half suggests its power to the rabs module? my book shows the connector as a dead end in the wiring diagram same time!

My ABS lights been on since a cab swap so I just did the same thing too, trigger the test to narrow down why.

No it wasnt connected to anything else. I've been researching it and found that 87-92 has the same test plug, they probably changed it by 97. I'm pretty sure I got the right wire to ground. Her's a decent bit of info I found.

Yup shows it the same for my 94 however the connector is plugged into a matting half, I believe its a black wire.

My book lumps 92 and up in the same group RABS II, picture suggest that in link too. Earlier years its over on the drivers side RABS I.

Never too sure where the changing point is using a Haynes manual though.

And myself I don't see your posts as any kinda "thread hijack" not at all, all info can only help him find it in that one. "97" who knows what they might have done! OBS so hopefully its in the same place as year before it.

Following in cab harness back from RABS module, that would......should.... eventually bring him to it!

I will have to get back under the dash and check. I did swap out the RABS module for a DRW one since I am making it a dually(behind glove box)

I have to do some mirror wiring today if the rain holds off, i'll look then
