Well I am shocked but the tip is actually plastic indeed! I had looked at it before and it looks like pot metal but when I rubbed my nail on it tonight it flaked off and is obviously plastic.
I am feeling much better about the whole situation now.
Maybe rather than changing the oil, you could pour, or pump a large amount of oil into the filler hole with the plug out. Who knows,,,, maybe it would wash out. I bet it is floating in the oil. Maybe do a couple complete drains and then put a gallon in with the plug in then drain. Couple of those might do it also.
I remember putting a radiator in my old 1/2 ton. Got it done, filled the coolant, checked the freeze point(yeah, with one of those skinny testers) and low n behold,,,, I dropped it. I couldn't handle it, so I drained and removed the radiator and shook it upside down til it fell out. So you can just remove the engine, hold it upside down n shake it. Haha. Lol. You issue isn't funny, I know, just thought maybe some humor could help.
