Battery ground wire

I have an 83' with the 300L and a 4spd w/od. I was changing out the starter and noticed the po had bolted the ground wire to the starter mounting bolt, is there a better place for this wire to be mounted?

I think pretty much anywhere is fine. Mine is bolted to the bracket for my alternator. You would find a sturdy bolt on the frame or engine bay or do as i did and utilize the brackets.

Negative battery cable is typically landed on the engine block first then to the frame of the vehicle as well. The idea being that a strong negative connection is critical for spark plugs to do their job. The starter mounting would actually be a great location as long as its not to inconvenient being located there. Just be certain any straps that complete the negative out to the frame are in good shape since the engine and transmission sit on rubber mounts.
