I have a 2000 F-250 5.4L V8. While driving on the interstate today, my ABS light came on, which disengaged my cruise control, and I thought I saw my speedometer flutter. A few hours later, my check engine light same on, and my speedometer quit working entirely. My truck is running fine, other that. Any ideas where I should begin on this one? Thank you in advance
Check the speedometer sensor. It has two wires and plugs into the rear end I think at the foward end a little over half way up. Make sure the wires are not damaged. If this is the problem you are probably getting a hard shift, really hard.

I agree with Tennessee, Check the speedo pickup on top of the rear pumpkin. You could try cleaning off all the goop but more than likely it's shot. It should cost less than $20.
Thanks for the suggestion guys. I'll check it out in the morning, we're about ot get hit by a pretty good storm. After driving it around some more, the speedo works once I have reached 30 miles an hour. If I fall beneath 30, it drops down to 0. Also, my Overdrive Off light is blinking off and on. If I click the button, the light goes off for a few mintes, then begins blinking again.
The speedo sensor makes sense if it's on top of the pumpkin, however it's shifting normally. I was out on the ranch today and driving through alot of tall grass. On the way home is when the ABS light came on. I pulled the ABS sensor to make sure the connection was clean. I might have somehow pulled a wire on the Speedo sensor. After I did that, the speedo quit working and the Service Engine light came. It's possible that the Overdrive light was blinking earlier too and I just didn't notice until it was dark out.

My odometer isn't turning when I'm running under 30 mph either. Overdrive is now turning itself off. When I push the button, O/D comes back on for awhile, then starts blinking again, then O/D turns off.
My truck did the same thing. I replaced the speed sensor on the rearend. It took care of the problems. You have to go to ford to get the speed sensor, cost $26
This forum is great! Once again, ya'll have quickly and correctly diagnosed my problem. It was the Speedo Sensor and I fixed it for $20.07. Thanks again for your help
