Thank you guys! I doubt compression is my problem, as I can remove the oil fill cap and have no pressure what so ever. But the engine is still spewing unburnt fuel, really bad at high rpms and no power at any speed. I'm starting to think the fuel return line to the tank is plugged and the fuel rail pressure is getting too high. Just bought gauges and adapters......next project.

I realize this is an old thread so I don't feel bad about " jumping in". I have been attempting to test my compression. I was able to test one cylinder and blew my whip it hose @ 380 psi it was rated at 4500 psi for grease. A local hydrolic hose builder says it was probally old stock. I had a very hard time getting the one tested so I am waiting on the 1/8 x 10m 1.0 adapter to come in.
My question is my compression tester has a valve in the peice the screws in the glow plug hole. When I get my new adapter in is it necessary to have the inline valve?
Thanks in advance for your help.

If the valve is used to release the pressure after you do the test, then I would keep it. I wouldn't want to unscrew an adapter with nearly 400 psi behind it.

I have the release on top at the gauge. Do I need the other inline to get a reading? In your opnion?

I just went out and looked at my Snap-on MT33C diesel compression gauge and also the Snap-on EEPV314A glow plug compression tester adapter. The adapter has no valve. The gauge has a single release valve. So, I have no idea what your additional valve could be.
