Look at the lamp number and make sure it the right one
for that location. I would also check and see how bright
your lights are. It could be that the brake light is on in
place of the tail lamps.
But then again this all is a guess

Had the right rear in our '08 burn up. Replaced 2 bulbs IIRC then finally sucked it up and bought a whole new socket, which has to be spliced in BTW. Had some radio interference go away with the new socket installed as well.

What's probably causing this is corrosion on the contacts of the socket and the bulb. This can cause resistance in the flow of the electricity which as a result can cause excessive heat to be generated in this area. Try cleaning the contacts, and put some dielectric grease in the socket to protect the contacts from corrosion. Another way to think about it, is if you use too small of wire on a high amp circuit, the wire will build up heat because of the resistance of the wire. This is basically what's taking place when there's corrosion on the contacts.

DISCOLORED SOCKETS

All late model vehicles that use the "push in" style of bulbs get the discolored sockets. I get brand new cars in my shop with discolored sockets, but I have never yet seen a melted one. I guess it's cheap plastic.
