About 4 months ago my truck sometimes wouldn't start, I would have to get the shifter and apply pressure upward to get it to start. About a month ago it started to not start in park at all, it is beginning to get annoying to have to put my truck in neutral every time. I was wondering if anyone knew of a quick fix for my problem, I dont really want to spend much money because its not a necessity to get fixed.
Is the shift handle sloppy? If so your problem is probably two loose screws that hold the shift tube to the column. You can look under the steering column near the floor. There are two Torx head screws that can loosen and cause this.
If the screws are not the problem then you probably have a failing Transmission Range Sensor. This also functions as the Neutral Safety Switch. It is located on the driver's side of the transmission. It is the part with the wiring harness attaced.
Yea 5 minute fix, very easy. Let me know if it ends up being your TRS. I have a parts truck that won't shift out of park because of that. But the previous owner ran a toggle switch to bypass it. I can trace the wires to figure out what he did, if it would be any use to anyone
I just did the same thing on an Expedition. It is right above your brake pedal. I had to lay on my back to get to it. Reach up and wiggle the shifter while looking around you will see the movement pretty quickly. If I remember right it was a T27. At least it was on an Expedition.
