2000 Excursion sometimes will not go into park, rolls
My excursion sometimes doesnt go into park all the way. On occasion, I have to start it in neutral. My wife has noticed a few instances where it will start to roll. When that happens, we cycle the shift from P to N and then back again and it seems to hold the P position and then it will start.
I had something similar where the shifter would not go completely into park and the engine would not turnover until I put it into neutral. The solution was a five minute fix at the local garage to adjust the linkage under the dash.
Could also be just the screws that hold the shift lever to the linkage. To see what I'm talking about, I will have to take the knee panel off and lay on ur back looking up at the column. Wiggle the shifter and u will see where it meets the linkage. Usually the 2 screws loosen over time. Some even fall out. I would start there b4 u start throwing money at it.
search a bit on shifter cable and such related topics. there are a couple of tiny torx bolts that hold the linkage under the column. these bolts fall out or come loose or both. this will cause the shifter to move and not the cable to move at the trans. pull the panel off the dash, stand on your head and follow the cable assembly down and its right under the steering shaft. you should see two or three, like t20 or t25 torx bolts. most likely they fell out.
