AOD Case (NON SELECTIVE)snap ring
I am putting my AOD (1991) transmission back together. I have 2 different books and neither one has any great detail on the case non selective snap ring. One book (Haynes) says put it in after installing the ring gear/direct drum. If I remember correctly...
I have the snap ring(some AOD's do not have it) but there doesn't seem to be a groove for it.
Does it just ride down there on a ledge?
What is it for? Because some don't have it.(????)
I put it down in there and I stopped there, because I am not sure if I am missing something....
This is not the snap ring that goes in after the center support...I understand that one, no problem.

That is used as an assembly aid from the factory.
It sits in the rear of the case and the band rests on it.
Used for positioning the band in relation to the servo.
Some do some don't.
