78 F250 4X4 $speed 351M, engine will stop running as I am driving down the highway. I quickly turn ign key to off and back on and away we go with out loosing speed.
This has happened 4 or 5 times over the last month. Truck has less than 100,000 miles and ign switch only has the one key on the chain for it entire life. Has anybody had this same trouble.??
Thank you.
Thank you for reply. Ign Sw was my guess till I spent an hour reading archives.
Then after reading about ICM and pick up coil problems I thought I would ask .
Did stop today once today after 10 minutes of running and then I drove for over 2 hours with out incident.
I am not sure but I have purchased and placed behind the seat a Ford/Motocraft brand ICM for my '78. The ford brand is a premium (Rockauto) but supposed to be better than the others commonly stocked at autoparts stores. Given your problem, I would swap it as a diagnostic. Even a parts store brand would work for the diagnostic.

I'm far from expert but I did have a random, engine dying problem. Replacing the ignition module solved the problem. I never turned the key off and back on so I don't know about that. The IM was $20 or so and probably easier to replace than an ignition switch. Haven't had a problem for 5 years or so.
