Years ago that used to be a resistor on the coil. Look around the coil for a broke part or bad connection. Also how about the oil pressure sensor or connection..I have all the books for my 85 f150 but its fuel inj.
i have replaced the ignition switch on the column and also the coil.i have checked the wireing from the modual to the coil and distibutor the resistance is in normal specs as to hynes manual ....
Its under the column and is connected to the Key Ignition by a rod, Usually under the dash...on the top portion of the column and is very hard to get to...but useing an 5/16 in socket, it is easy to take off and replace. Go to the auto parts store and get one to see what it looks like....
Change out the module itself, it's gone bad.
If you can, just find another old Ford one, they're considerably better than most aftermarket ones.
To test this, put a jumper between the two terminals of the 2 wire connector(red and white wires) at the box and plug it back in. It will now crank in the run position, so, have someone turn the key on, and pull the wire off if the solenoid when it starts. If it stays running, the run circut in your module is dead, if it doesn't, I don't know what to tell you.
