Hello and good afternoon! I am trying to put the timing gear and chain on my '76 fe360 and cannot for the life of me figure out how the darn eccentric goes on the end of the cam shaft without being pushed off while tightening the cam bolt.
Is this correct: cam shaft, cam timing gear, two piece eccentric, washer, then cam bolt? If I put the tang on the back side of the eccentric through the keyway hole on the gear face, the pin pushes it out when tightening the cam bolt. I am confused!
Feel free to write every idea possible, heck give me a call or send me a text!!! 208-761-3317 I will be scratching my head and staring at an almost assembled 360! HAHAHA! Thank you all in advance!
Is this a new cam or drive pin?
Grind down the pin so there is enough clearance for the drive tang to clear without being crushed.
Once the eccentric is torqued, make sure the outer shell spins freely on the eccentric.
I just went through this on my 390 build.
On my build the new pin was too long so I had to grind it down to get the proper clearance for the eccentric drive tang.
Once that was okay and the cam bolt was torqued to specs, the outer shell of the eccentric wouldn't spin. I ended up fabbing a spacer to give the needed clearance https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...h-pics-16.html
This is a link to the page in my build thread where I discuss this problem. It's posts #230 & 231.
THANK YOU ALL! WISH I WOULD HAVE HAD THE LAPTOP IN THE GARAGE THOUGH! I FIGURED I WAS ABOUT TO MESS SOMETHING UP, BUT FIGURED I HAD TWO PINS SO I COULD SACRIFICE ONE. BUDDY AND I DECIDED TO USE A DREMEL AND CUT A LENGTH OFF OF THE REPLACEMENT PIN (CAME WITH CAM AND THE OTHER IN A HEADACHE KIT). BOLTED RIGHT UP! THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HELP THOUGH!
