That guy built my transmission, had my truck back to me in two days and it is friggin' night and day difference. No tunes at all and she scratches shifting, stock motor, cold air intake, straight pipe exhaust, no muffler. With the tunes it's disgusting how fast she now is.
I talked specifically with him about single shot injectors, Casserlys to be exact. He told me that indeed, without a doubt, I will see an increase in fuel economy. Granted he's going to be the one that I buy my injectors from and who'll install 'em and then reprogram my tunes himself to fit my upgraded truck so perhaps that will play into it, but I'm going to have to assume that he knows a thing or two about the diesel truck and what you can or can not get from them.
We'll find out soon enough. But I may end up going stage II's instead, I'm addicted to the power!
jccapri - I'm not an expert. I bought my truck Oct 2010, but I just started learning the intricacies of diesel one year later... after I blew up my transmission. I haven't had my hands on diesels other than mine, but I have a knack for understanding things.
I've been informed tuning is timing. Yes... it's just a matter of getting fuel in there, but when the fuel gets there and how long the fuel is fed is "timing". There are plenty of inputs and formulas to calculate the timing under every scenario the engine is subject to, but the split-shot injector cramps the style of the tuner. The mechanical design introduces a small shot of fuel, then a dip, then the real shot of fuel. The single-shot just gets it in there without *****-footin' around. It's my understanding the quicker/earlier shot (within limits) lowers EGTs and aids with MPGs.
Of course we all know that your driving habits are probably the biggest factor in MPGs. I'm at almost 200k on my original injectors and I think swapping in just about any quality injector would gain me a little MPGs. I'll be getting some Stage 1 singles next summer probably and may see what deals I can find for a chip over the winter so I can swap things around. Lots of advances in tuning in the last year or two.
Letting my checking account recover... Work is slowing down, looks like I'll be missing out on the per diem/ out if state money.
I will however be taking a trip back to Texas to bring a trailer home in the near future. We could always tip a glass if your not busy

Ed, I pulled my neighbors 5'r 50 miles up the interstate in my 60hp tow tune. Not a real exciting tune, but its what I normally tow in. Foot on the floor egt's stay at 1000 and will not climb , tried it in 80 HP tune and it went just over 1200 so I let off.
looks like I'll be fine pulling my camper.
It's hard to compare between the new & old sticks being that its been two months since I last pulled a load, and that was with no chip.
I can however say that in my 100 HP tune I can surprise many unexpected motorists
I'm going to have to believe this guy over yourself, friend. Don't take it personally but as far as I'm concerned his word is better than gold. This is only one of his 7.3's.
Great...
I'm glad you believe David, however he is in the business to sell stuff.
If your going to get injectors, ANY injectors thinking your going to gain 2-3 mpg, you WILL be disappointed.
If your driving habits remain the same, your HP tuning remains the same, and all else is the same you MIGHT see a slight bump, not enough to "pay for the injectors" or anything like that.
However 99.5% of the people that add injectors do not stay at a 270hp level for tuning, meaning they are injecting more fuel per time, which unless you use funny math means no increase in MPG...
I've known David for over 10 years now, he is very good at what he does. The AC injectors in Chelsea's X came from him, my old green motor came from him...
However fact remains, you will not gain MPG with an injector swap.

Fair enough. I'll talk to him a bit more in depth, tell him your side of the story, ask and get some answers. Either way, it was not the mpg increase why I wanted injectors but after he did say that to me I became a lot more interested.
