Well, I've never have done that either, I just throw it away. Before I take off Thur or Fri I'm changing mine out, oil too!! I carry all that stuff with me, time to use it.
I figured it was something along the lines of 'dirt in the filter stops more dirt from getting through'
Makes sense to me, but im like Mike. Basic maintenance im ****...I keep an excel file of EVERYTHING I have ever done to the truck.. the date it was done, mileage, where i purchased stuff... etc
Every detail about it, and for $23 (bought a few during clays group buy) I wont even spend the 15 mins doing that. lol

I don't mean to hijack the thread (although that is our specialty here in OBS PSD land) but there is a great app that I use on my phone for this too. It's called aCar. I paid a little for the full version so I could back up my data, but the free version works just as well. It will track mileage (you enter your fill-ups and odo reading), running costs, oprating costs per day or per mile, all your maintenance, etc. You can even set alerts based upon the mileage or date and it will remind you of services that are coming due. It really is a powerful app. I use an Android, but I think it is available for iPhone too. It's good stuff. And, no I don't get a commission for their sales, lol. It's just a nice tool that I thought I might share.
i have other friends who track date, # of gallons, place, price per gallon at every fill up in a little journal.
He could tell you what he paid for his first tank of diesel in that thing! I never bothered with it THAT much, but an ap would certainly make it easier than sitting at a pump another 5 mins. lol
I use android too. This is good.
aCar...gunna search it now.
I've met people who will replace every light on their vehicle if one goes out.
All depends on how much money you have sitting around to spend on it.
I've seen people who religiously spend time maintaining their vehicle and are always having problems, and then you see people who rarely change their oil or do any maintenance and wonder how their vehicle is still running so well.
I try not to over do it.
Just like the guy who over cleans his gun throws it out of tolerance or wears away the protective coatings.
I don't get it. Are they using the filter in conjunction with the existing filter on the shop vac? It sounds like they are using this one INSTEAD of the one inside the shop vac. Wouldn't that run all that dirt through the motor on the shop vac and just plug up the INSIDE of the tymar?
Unless I am completely missing the point of how they did that it sounds to me like that would be the case.
I believe they take the factory one off and are mocking up the 6637 over it.
If their shop vacs are anything like mine. you can remove the top...and the filter is in the center. The end of the 6637 is big enough in diameter to slide over the filter location.
