Wow. Y'all run y'alls filters a lot longer than I do. I usually only run mine about a year and I'm not about to blow them out or try to clean them in any way.

I just bought 4 more from Clay. I think they were around $30 a piece.

I dont run them that long either! I guess if a filter is dirty it will catch more dirt... but also restrict air flow.

IDK just my guess

Do the filter covers help filter anything, or are they just for looks? I was gonna put some of my wife's black panty hose over mine, but never did. I might still do that.

If you put them on the filter Bill you'll miss them and have to go to the store. So I've heard anyway!! LOL

I have one and it doesn't seem to do anything, maybe that's why I get shi!ey mileage. Of course, I always have!

I'm guessing your talking to me.

Dirt closes up the pores on the filter.
Filters are not a constant micron rating, we've had this discussion with the oil filters.\

Dirt attracts dirt.
So a slightly dirty filter will filter more dirt out.

As for hitting them with the air compressor, your only going to damage the filter if you stick the air hose right in there.

Think about it a bit, these filters flow air.
If you dont blast it with a stream, you wont damage the medium.

I use a special air hose sprayer or reverse the shop vac to blow them out. And I usually blow them out from the inside.

90% of the time, I just smack it on the cement a few times to knock loose the excess dirt.

I feel when they start to get nasty colors its time to change the filter.

Mines over a year old now and I'm still getting 20mpg and 5psi of boost on the highway.

so...........................................
I doubt I have any air flow restrictions.

Since we got on this subject I've been looking around at how to clean a filter. Cummins says under no circumstances do you bang it around on something.

I must just be dusting my truck because I do air compressor and smacking it.

When a filter is dirty you should Change it you should not try to clean it unless its a serviceable filter.

Maybe it's just me but a 300 turbo or a 3000 engine isn't worth the risk over a 30.00 filter
