Went up the canyon with the wife and dog today and after traveling off road for a while I felt something pop while driving over rocky terrain....got out looked under to confirm my suspicion and sure enough the drivers side tie rod had come out of the sleeve. After jacking it up and inspecting further it was a junk yard tie rod replacement at some point and the threads were gone and they had just clamped it down inside the sleeve. After about 2 hrs of messing with it without tools (because I cleaned the beast yesterday and didn't put them back in) I was able to get it pushed back in and clamped down as tight as I could; then nursed it down out of the mountains and into my parent's driveway. I knew I was pushing my fix and alignment and sure enough two destroyed front tires upon jacking it up for further inspection. Oh well! At least it was now and taking it easy instead of towing a trailer and could have been worse at highway speeds. Now new parts are ordered and repairs start tomorrow.
Upon further review by the alignment guys.....the traction bar assembly is cracked...so welding is in order...all tie rods done today....new rancho steering stabilizer coming this weekend....hopefully running beautiful in time for my new job in Louisiana in 2.5 weeks.
