C6 Column shift on the stock column... can it work?

Quick question, possibly a dumb one. My new to me 56 came with a 302 and C6 with floor shift. The truck is a factory 272, 3 on the tree, manual truck, but no longer has the column shifter or linkage.

Is there anyone else running a C6 on a column shifter? I would like to switch to the column shift setup for a cleaner interior.

Thanks,
Jesse

Correct, stock column, column shift for C6. I know the ford-o-matic was an option, not sure how that linkage was setup for the column shift on our trucks....

I'm using a column shifter on a GM column on my 49 F-1 with a 302/FMX. I don't see why a C4 or C6 would be any different...

Im trying to use the factory column with a column shifter for the C6. I imagine I will have to find a mid fifties that had a Fordomatic column shifter, and adapt that to the shift linkage for the C6.

My 54 has the stock column and stock 3 speed shifter hooked to a c6. Works great. It was that way when I bought the truck.

Hello Jesse,

My '56 originally had a 292 with 3 on the tree... Fast forwarding to today it has a 351W with a C6 and I'm using the tree. It took a little enginuity but nothing too bad.

I'm having more problems figuring out the tailgate's dangling chains...

Paul, excellent... does anyone know where I can find the 3 on the tree shifter, tube, etc entire assembly?

Surely some of you dark siders have it collecting dust in your garage! I saw one for a 57 on ebay... any idea if that's the same?

seems I saw a post about a toploader setup on an f100.... is it really that hard to find the bellhousing? Dont you want to just hand over that 3 speed shifter now?

Truck bellhousings are $50, car bellhousings are $500-$600. People are trying to sell the truck bellhousings as car units. You have to be very careful or you will have the wrong item.
