A cummins in a Ford? Ya crazy Though i have seen it done before. I don't know if i would want to do a diesel in my 78. I like having a motor i know how to work on. I'm sure i could pretty quickly grasp how to work on a diesel, i just don't know if i would want one.
IDI is In Direct Injection. I assume it has to do with spraying diesel into the intake before it goes into the cylinders.
Psd is powerstroke diesel, and idi is indirect injection. Those were the 6.9 and 7.3 liter diesels of the 80's. They are fully mechanical, and non turbo. In 93 they switched to turbo diesel computer controlled.

Yes Grue, a Cummins in a Ford. Cummins is it's own company. It's not like I'd be putting a Dodge engine in my Ford. I would yank it out of a Dodge though. Hehe
I like the straight six design. I like the fact that the turbo is bolted to the manifold and not the top of the engine. I would have room to crawl in the engine bay and work or make a tweek here or an adjustment there. Plus they sound better to me.
Cummins is its own company, and their engines are most commonly seen in Dodge trucks. The first diesels used in the 80's fords were made by International-Harvester
