Random Transmission Question (5R110)

Is the 5R110 direct drive like the newer 6 speeds?

I accidentally put it into 3rd last night and took off rather "hard".

Tires still chirped and all that, but it felt wierd. Looked down, noticed it was in 3rd on the selector and popped it back into Drive.

Truck downshifted, and took off with it's usual blaze of glory.

On the F-150/Expy with 6 speed, when you put the trans into 3rd/2nd, it locks the trans into that gear. And only that gear. Nothing else will be used. Is the 5R110 that way as well? I'm guessing so from the way it acted, but would like to confirm

The 5R110 (there is no such trans as a 5R100) will start and stay in third gear when the shift lever is in the 3 position. It will do that in 2, also. That is the Ford standard.
