Wiring clearance lights.

I have a set of recon lights that I am in the process of installing on my early 99 F350. I was told that they would plug into an existing plug under the passenger kick panel. I have searched high and low and not only do I not see a free plug but the wiring harness that came with the lights just has a free green, I assume power, wire and a much shorter wire for ground I guess. My question is where should I tap the power wire into and since the ground is so short can I lengthen it to reach down to the floor for a ground?

You can extend your ground if needed but it only has to affix to metal any where for the ground circuit. There is a plug for the cab lights under the panel mentioned on the later trucks, I don't know but maybe the early 99's didn't have it. If it does not have it just tie into the park light circuit where ever it is easy for you.

Use the brown wire

If you have the overhead console then it's harness will be using that plug, which is OK because it will still have two available spaces that you can use (if you have the correct Molex crimp connectors to fit that plug). 12v positive will be the brown wire and the ground will be the remaining wire.

Or you can find a brown wire just about anywhere and tap into it (after you confirm it has power when the lights are turned on and no power when lights are off...) Ford has been using the brown wire for marker lights since the 1900s

Here's a picture of the plug you're looking for. Mine had a dummy plug in there (the thing laying on the carpet) cause I don't have an overhead console.
