I ended up going right back out of town so I have yet to pick the Ex up, I am trying to get back tonight so I can get it and start this weekend on it before it gets too cold out.
thanks for the tips so far, I am making a list of parts to look at and read up on the air test. I got the can tool on order and I think it showed up at the house so I should be good there for this and future issues.
will get back soon on it,
thanks again!!!
well, I got into it and found it was a lot worse. the regulator was packed full of little parts that stared the system of oil. got a shop to help and tracing it back all the way it was the plastic stem from the oil filter that had a crack and was at some point cut up to were it was breaking apart. this messed up the oil cooler as well.
so, let's just say I have a lot more upgrades checked off the list earlier than planned.
cracked with missing chunks. while I can't prove it I think I know how/when that started. when I bought the truck used I went right away to do a oil change on it so I knew for sure it was using the right filter and was good to go. I could not get the filter top off as it was cross threaded and the top was all worn off. I tried a few oil can wrenches and could not get it and was worried about putting too much pressure on it as I did not know what was under it. so I took it to a shop to have done. I saw them whacking at it and they broke it off. I am sure either before that (it was used) or at that time the stem was broken and over time it had parts break off and get into the system.
