Avid Reader, 1st Time Poster "HELP" !!!!

Hello all. I have studied these forums and used the info for some time now. You members are 'impressive'. I am in desperate need of help.

<OMy 2003 6.0 with 120K miles just underwent a First Coast EGR delete manifold and a CCV reroute to the rear. I also changed all oil and fuelx2 filters. It ran great. I then installed an EDGE Attitude Platinum (mostly for monitoring purposes) and in hopes of fuel mileage increase. It ran for 2 weeks and about 1200 miles "perfect". Then one morning I went out to start and it bucked, jerked, puked and stumbled until my oil temp reached 120. Then runs great.

I changed the alternator and discovered I had one bad battery. I replaced both batteries with 850 CCA new ones.

I purchased an AutoEnginuity scan program and verified the following:
<O13.5 volts from system battery/alternator<O
48 Volts from FICM<O</O
600 to 1100 Oil Rail Pressure<O</O
Injector Buzz Test = Pass <O</O
Installed Fuel pressure gauge and am getting 50 psi.<O</O
<O></O>
The truck is throwing no codes. Cam and Crank are in synch but cam always reads 'zero'<O

I assumed the EDGE system wiped out the spool/oil warm-up program from Ford for my injectors. I set the EDGE back to 'stock' cycled the key several times, let it run and then removed the entire EDGE system. I still had same symptoms. Puke, Gag, No Power until oil temp reached 120.

<OI just took it to Ford and had them reflash the FICM, PCM and TCM with the latest updates. They called and said 'no luck, still same symptoms. They want another $ 150 to diagnose it.

</O
Soooo..... Does anybody have any ideas ??????? This is my work ride and it's getting cold on the Harley

Does a lighter weight oil make a difference? Maybe a 5w40 synthetic oil would help or 10w30 dino oil.

Cold Oil = Hard Start

When I say cold oil I mean anything below 110 F

You're probably going to have get a diagnosis on the problem. You don't necessarily have to take to a dealer to get it done, most any reputable independent shop should be able to find the problem for less money. It could be in the glow plug system or a number of other things. I'd bite the bullet and get it checked out as the weather is getting less and less favorable for the Harley.

Well after 3 days at Ford dealer and $300 later it is worse than ever. They reflashed all the modules with the latest Ford software and spent 2 hrs on the Ford IDS system.

Basically they said we don't know what it is and can't fix it cause your <ACRONYM title="Exhaust Gas Recirculation">EGR</ACRONYM> delete is screwing up thier diganostic software.
I paid the bill, grabbed the keys and ran like hell.

I am changing back from Rotella Synthetic 5W-40 to straight mineral based Rotella) tommorow. reason being is beacuse it is the ONLY thing that has changed since 03 with no symptoms..............................
Has anyone had any troubles with the Synthetic Rotella 'Diesel' ????<!-- / message -->

On the 6.0's I think I remember some people having trouble when trying to unhook or defeat the egr systems or valves, among the problems were the turbo bearings going bad, and there is also the pilot injection program on the 2003 models, I think ford turned it off on the later factory programs. Good luck with that stuff.

WELL........ NEW INFORMATION:

I drained the Synthetic Rotella 15W40. REPLACED with Motorcraft 15W40.

The truck started with no problems (but it was above 70 outside today). I will report back when it is a "cold start", basically below 50 F.

Still have problems at <ACRONYM title="Wide Open Throttle">WOT</ACRONYM> (lots of BLUE smoke) but I am working on that.<!-- / message -->

I use Rotella 5W-40 with no problems. This oil should provide better cold weather starts than Motorcraft 15W-40.

petro can syn 5w40 for 3 years in 2 different trucks never tied an issue to the oil and i change on the light service intervals. i'm not certain but isn't max oil press supposed to be higher. if the ipr is damaged or failing it could act weird. you need a great tech to at least tell you what parameters to monitor from startup to warm and see what changes. myself i'm not familiar with the technical side of the diagnostics to be specific, but i would suspect just about anything other than the oil, unless you had a fuel leak into the crankcase giving you a lot of fuel contamination leading to oil thinning, but that wouldn't go away.if an injector has a copper ring leaking combustion into the fuel rail it could take a while to purge the rail and get running once again its not likely that it would fix itself but if its such a small leak that it only actually leaks when fully cold overnight then maybe? right? good luck keep us updated and we'll keep thinking about it

Thanks to all !!! Sure is nice to have folks to run things by and all of your input is really apprecciated.

My 'theory' is the Rotella SYNTHETIC was foaming. I love Rotella oil and ran it for 130K miles in my prior 7.3. Just think there eas a problem with the anti foaming additives in the Rotella Synthetic. There was an immediate change when I went back to thee mororcraft oil. Please don't turn this into 'an oil war forum', just relating to MY 6.0 fiasco.

I use an AutoEngenuity and my DESIRED Injector HPOP gets matched by the ACTUAL HPOP pressure so I rule out pump, leaks and regulator.

My AE Tool just datalogged that under high RPM (injectors firing fast) the main power from the FICM is dropping down to 46 Volts. Ford spec calls for 48to 50 volts. FYI... my problem is now a stutter/stumble/ misfire with no codes anytime above 2500 RPM.

I am now looking for the best price on a NEWFICM to obatin, get flashed then send to Inovvative for the custom program.
I am still open to all the good ideas and info you folks send my way !!!!!
