I curently have a stock 460, mid 70's era. It has the stock cast iron manifold with egr & Edelbrock 600cfm carb. The previous owner put a egr block off plate/spacer on it(about 1" thick) Someday I want to open her up a bit with cam, etc. Adding headers/duals shortly. Ideally I'd like a Weiand Stealth but funds are tight. I do have access to an Edelbrock Torker manifold for cheap. Not a Torker II. Many yrs ago I had a F350 with a 460 & a Torker. When I had the engine rebuilt I swapped to a Performer. Honestly I didn't notice a difference. What's your guys oppinion? Switch from stock to the Torker for cheap or Stay stock for the time being and wait for the Stealth? Goal is some power and mpg. Was also thinking of swapping the timming chain for a non retarded set.
The Performer is a slightly better intake than the stock one, and a hell of a lot lighter and easier to install. You'll get more bang-for-the-buck doing the timing setup upgrade.
I agree with Mark A. about the single plane Torker. When I bought my 77 a couple of years ago it had one on it and I didn't like the way the engine ran at low rpms. I changed it to a Performer and am happy with it. You will definitely notice a difference with the timing set upgrade. There have been quite a few posts by members happy with the Stealth.
