I just acquired a 1979 F-100 shortbed and although I was not really looking for a big block truck it came with a 460 and C-6 transmission and I look at as an added bonus. Looking at the heads I noticed they are D2VE which bummed me out so anyways I'm going to rebuild the engine and I have a D1VE block in the garage and also a Comp cams Xtreme energy 262H and lifters that I've had for awhile, I was wanting to know if anyone uses this cam and what they like and dislike about it, I'm worried I might of picked a cam to small for what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to find the balance between drivability and power and this will be a weekend driver street truck but it will get alum intake and heads, headers, nice carb and maybe new internals in the future
If I go aluminum heads they are going to be Edelbrock or Ford Racing and I would want the compression ratio around 10-1 or if I find some iron D0VE or D3VE I would want lower compression. I want my truck to be reliable but powerful and run on pump gas
When I rebuilt the 460 in my 77 I used the D2VE-AA heads which were on it. I had read a lot about the cons of these heads and, as many have said, if you are going for high performance these are NOT the heads to use.
In my mild build, however, they work fine. I have about 3,000 miles on the rebuild. I have a set of C9VE heads just in case.

Well, that cam is very, very mild as compared to stock...I don't know if it would even be worth the effort to install....I would at something closer to the 280 duration.
