No there is many problems from other things besides the computer, Solenoid pack, TPS or FIPL ,Engine temp sender, Relay, MLPS,VSS. Computer ranks very low on the charts of being bad.
Ok. It has a new rebuild, havent been able to drive it 5 miles, dont want it to burn up. New sol pack. I installed new fipl. New upgraded mlps. New sol pack harness. I'm getting voltage to the solenoid pack. I have not replaced vss or the engine temp sender. Engine temp light is not on. If I put it in drive, it starts in what feels like third gear. I wired lights to the solenoid harness to see if the correct solenoids are getting ground from EEC. Seems to working properly.
Look at the solenoid pack plug, It will plug in both directions if the lock clip is broke off( to test just unplug and manually put it in gear it should start out in second with it disconnected)...See if the wires are bare too the heat from the exhaust system reeks havick with that plug youll need to pull back the insulation a bit and clean it up too see also the MLPS could just be out of adjustment or you may have wired it wrong when changing, I know the directions that came with mine were wrong!
There is 2 engine temp sensors one is for the transmission and alls it does is keep the converter from locking until the engine is warm.
Double checked wiring on new sol pack plug. It's brand new. Mlps in brand new. Double checked mlps wiring. Truck starts in park and neutral. Brand new fipl also. That's why I'm down to the EEC or not.
I have 1/2/3 an r manually.
I just determined the computer is telling the tranny to shift properly. I ran 4 wires from solenoid harness and hooked all four wires to four lights on the ground side. Then ran one hot 12 volts from battery. Then I used the solenoid application chart that the tranny guy gave me and then went for a drive and the lights correspond to the shift pattern. So it is in the tranny. A check ball or something. Thanks for all the responses on the threads.
From this post page 33 post #487 it has alot of info from making the solenoid pack fire manually, updates, OHM's, VSS ETC.....very good for trouble shooting should help you out.
I did all the labor and he did the rebuild and all of the updates. This is the second time trying to rebuild. First time was a Craigslist screwing. Guy rebuilt it supposedly. Then I took it back to him. A month later I got a Lein notice and had to pay impound to get my truck out of tow yard after CL guy scipped town on four of us that he was working on. So myself and the new trans guy are trying to eliminate any electrical issues that could have been caused by the CL guy. Like putting a 95 solenoid pack in my 1990 tranny. Thanks, I will download that zip fil, And go thru it.

You have no fourth gear. You already know solenoid S2 is working.
The mechanical end. Inspect the three/four shift valve. Springs could be tangled or missing.
Inspect the O/D accumulator regulator valve. Damaged valve or springs could be tangled.

Last. Valve body bolts are loose.
Trans guy wants to check mainline pressure and run tranny with a tran-x unit that will make trans shift with the tran-x. I will post back after we check this out, hopefully this weekend. Thanks for the input.
