So, I was driving my work truck, which is a 2012 crew cab short bed XLT, trying to climb a long, steep gravel/dirt road up to a wellsite near Paonia, CO. The traction control was killing me! I had the full Advance trac turned off, but the traction control still kept coming on and killing the power, even when driving straight! It didn't matter if the diff was locked or not. It didn't do it in 4x4, but this was a dry road! I shouldn't have needed 4x4!
My personal 2011 crew cab long bed lariat doesn't do this, even if I only have the first stage of traction control turned off!
Is this a sign of things to come? If so, I'll be done buying new Fords, or new trucks period!
I just wrote a whole post explaining turning off different parts of the traction system, like holding the button down below 35 MPH etc. Then I re-read you post. My bad. It sounds like you already knew all that based on your post! Skimming never works!
I have a 12' lariat 4x4, ELD and have not had that issue. When fully off it will let me roast my tires as I see fit. Was it maybe hitting the rev-limiter? Sorry man that's all I got!
Definately was not hitting the rev limiter. That makes me feel better that your 2012 doesn't have that issue, so I am wondering if it is something to do with my company. Lots of oilfield companies like to do ridiculous things like that. Safety is such BS!
Yeah thats a good point! Maybe some fleet wide safety system that doesn't let you fully turn it off? I went out and checked mine again out of curriosity and it let me roast em as long as I wanted!
