Detonating is pinging. That is like smacking your pistons with a sledgehammer. Dieseling is when you turn the ignition off and the engine keeps trying to run, and it fires a few more times even though the engine is "off"
ohh dangg that doesnt sounds good! and yeah i havent experienced either one i dont think, and i was wondering when i put the 750 on how much extra hp will i havvee?

alright well i havent gotten the 750 yett, but i do have some new info that might helpp, well im pretty sure its the carb tuning because when it bogs it smells like straight gas dumping out of the exhaust, also the further i advanced the timing the better the bogging got, i have it advanced so far to help the bogging that when it gets hot it is a really hard start, so my question is how do i tune my carburetor? its a holley 350cfm, not positive on the cfm part but it sure isnt very bigg,

I know this gets said often but I'll say it again anyway An engine is basically an air pump; the more air you get in and out of it the better it will preform. A 429 is a large air pump. The small carburetor you have is a bottleneck in that airflow, I am no expert by far but I doubt you will ever get that setup to preform to your satisfaction.
Go run around the block or until you're breathing heavy. Now try to catch your breath through a straw. That's the same thing you're doing to your 429 when it's spun up. You should see a nice boost in power, especially in those upper rpm ranges, when you get the new carb on there.
Check all the rubber vac lines and caps while you're installing it. There can be cracks that appear only when you start bending the rubber around.
woww, i appreciate it guys, all this time i thought that my small carb just wasnt putting in as much gass, but now the whole air thing makes it all make sense, i appreciate it, and i will update you as soon as i get the 750, all i gotta do is drive over and get it, but time time time, thats the problemm
Man dont put a 750 you will regret it from the time you hook it up until you take it off!
A 600 Edlebrock is more then enough, It floors me how cluless people are when it comes to a carbarator and how to pick one...A 350 will work just fine if your not running 6000rpm's down a race track or stop light racing a carb works by fuel-vs-air, a 350 with the right jets would be fine...a 750 there is NO WAY to reverse too much air! Then we can talk about some real bogging....You need to research things yourself bad advise is just as bad as no advise at all hell you should just take a coin and flip it, I cant believe what I have read on this post.
:/ i went to the link but i have no clue what rpms my truck runs, i don't have a tach, what should i guesstimate it at?? and if the 350 should work fine, do you have any clue as to why it is bogging down so hard at full throttle?
