Id love to have a brand new truck but I am yet to be impressed enough to dump $30,000 into one.

I like Dodges take at the truck world. They make a low dollar truck with only what you need, and nothing more. Its called the Express. 2 door, short bed, manual windows, manual locks, 2wd and a HEMI! Costs? $20,000. All power, no extra BS. Of course you can order it with 4 doors, 4wd, etc etc but costs goes up with it. Yes, you can order a truck from Ford or Chevy for $20,000 but it looks like a work truck... Prolly wrong site to say that but you get the point lol

Back at the end of 2006 I bought a left over 2006 F250 4x4 with a 5.4 3v engine. Got it for a deal at 34K out the door with X-Plan and rebates. I was making a lot more money in 2006 than I make now, so I sold it earlier this year and bought my 92 F250 4X4 with 351W. The 2006 was an easy 2000 lbs heavier than the 92, and the 2006 would run circles around the 92. I will take new technology anyday over old technology. The only difference is the 2006 had a more powerful computer.

matt

I will admit the best part about the 92 F250 is the No truck payment part

Having been under the hood of all but the newest body style (since the dent side), I have to say my dads 05 (F250 5.4) is the easiest to work on, my 97 (F150 4.6) was the hardest, for a while there the hard part was the cluster**** of BS that they put in for emissions, on my 92 (F250 7.3 IDI Turbo) it's the physical size of the motor that makes it a pain, but I'm not sold on the new crap yet, something about it just doesn't sit right with me (besides the fact that I find most of them butt ugly)...
But I do know for a fact that my fathers 05 F250 (5.4) cannot safely handle the loads that my 92 (or my old 93 F250 300 I6) can.

This is a joke right? I'm sorry, you may not like the styling of the Super Duty trucks, or how the engine feels, but they are better in every single possible way than an OBS. Twice the power of your 300, much heavier frame, axles and suspension.

I know, i know, theyre owned by Fiat lol. My point is, Ford needs to make a half ton cheap truck, then more people, including me, would be more apt to buy one.

As much as I like the old stuff, that's the truth. The 5.4 v8 and the and the 6.8(?)l v10 redline way higher than anything before.

That's what I'm sayin'. Maybe they could bring back the F100 with a stripped down base model. Cloth bench seat, manual windows, no headliner, rubber floors, and lose every single little thing that isn't essential like the system that tells you the tire pressure is low. Since most everyone has an MP3 player or a satellite radio thing they can plug into the aux input on the stereo why not have a head unit that is nothing more than an aux input with a volume ****? There's a bunch of base model trucks at my work and most don't have power windows or mirrors but they all have am/fm, cd, and satellite built in on a truck that's supposed to be as bare-bones as it gets.

With modern engines and transmissions, revving higher is not a big deal for a new gas truck. Not to mention that that 5.4 makes more torque *everywhere* than your truck.

Those were Ford at-the-crank numbers and graphs. Here's the as-measured wheel power for the new 5.0:

And the 2009 5.4L:

Add about 15% to those to get comparable at the crank numbers. Here's an at-the-crank graph for a late 5.4:

To say nothing of what the Lightning (and the related early Raptor with the 5.4) got at the crank:

Tire pressure monitors have been STANDARD since 07ish. You can thank the federal government and all the a holes that roller their explorers.

As for making a stripped truck, they DO.

Ford's is $23,670.

Fiat's is $22,120

Government Motors is $22,595

They all have vinyl floors, vinyl seats, manual windows. AKA STRIPPED

Just one problem here,,, they quit making Rangers. "Change that to don't sell new Rangers in the USA" .... So it is not an option anymore if you are looking for a cheap "new" truck.

Yep, I was agreeing with El Camino Man that Ford needs to make a good cheap 1/2 ton. We had that option with the Ranger...
