I forgot how much I loath drum brakes! They are a freaking pain! Anyhow, I finally got one side back together only to realize I put the anchor plate on upside down :-(. Is this a problem? I really don't feel like taking the whole thing apart if I don't have to.
I cant give you a true answer to your question as im sure others can but I will tell you this, Ive done this before and will probbly do it again. The last time I did this I was in your postion and thinking the same thing, Do I need to redo it. I looked at the set up and decided they had it that way for a reason and for saftey reasons I wanted it the way i had it when i pulled it apart. The clip might do nothing but keep the springs in place but for me I never wanted to take a chance with my safety
If everything else is right, you don't have to take everything back apart, just pop the two upper springs and self adjuster cable off and put the retainer/spacer on correctly and replace the cable and springs. Probably took longer to take a photo and post it than it would to correct.
I cant see where it will make any difference... but, it looks like the horseshoe clip that holds the e-brake lever to the shoe isnt crimped shut enough. You have the primary and secondary shoes backwards, and maybe the wheel cyl isnt engaged in the front shoe right.
You are right about the clip not being crimped; I just pushed it on I'll have to go back and crimp it. I'm not sure what you mean about primary and secondary shoes, all four shows looked the same. The culinder rods are engaged in the slots, that's one thing I made sure of.
I'm going to rent the tools from advance today, last night I did this one with just some pliers and brute strength. That's probably why i wanted to track down the drum brake engineer and torch his house lol.
Look at how far the linings are bonded to the metal part of the shoe. The one that is further down is the primary, or front shoe. Sometimes they are all the same, but it looks like they arent on yours.
Yes the shoes are on wrong as said above.
The primary and secondary shoes are on backwards.
They are not the same, one has more lining then the other one.
