Well I think I found the shop that I'm going to ask to do it. They mostly specialize in german cars, but they also build racecar chassis. Every one of their shop vehicles is lowered, probably bolt on kits, but it shows me they have some experience with it. I'll stop in on Monday and ask them what they think.
You may have better luck at a shop that specializes in air suspension. Alot of the mini truck shops around here do custom fab air ride to get the little rangers and s10s as low as possible and im sure if you explained your situation they would be more then willing to design something to suit your needs.
I don't want to burst your bubble, but to properly do an air-ride system, would require the removal of the staright axle and/or twin i-beam and doing a control arm type front end. You can do air on twin i-beams but you can't lay no more in the front than what the radius arms would allow. Extensive modification is required with these trucks and they are a whole nother animal. I am layed out on bags and I have well over $8,000 just in parts. For it to be done properly you are looking at $10k easily and that's considering you don't want to go as low as possible. Look into metalworx fab. They have done some twin I beam stuff as well. There is also a guy on facebook named robert balcom who is familiar with bagging these.
i dont see any reason u couldnt do it the front would go bout 2-3" lower than stock anr rear prob could go 6" without any major fab work if u were closer id gladly help out on the build too
You have 8k in parts cause that's what you wanted.
All he wants is the truck to be able to be lowered so its easier for him to get in. He already said he can get in and out of his lifted truck, but wanted it adjustable height to help him in.
We all agree that he can't drag the rockers with a 4x4 pickup, but he doesn't need it that low.
Simple way to lower and raise the the truck is replace the front coils with airbags. Then like I suggested before, is get an auto leveler from a trailer truck. Cheap and dirty, but will work. Rear is about the same but I'd do a long arm ladder bar with airbags. Get rid of the leaf springs
As with a lot of other people, if I were closer I'd help do the work.
Having a vehicle with air suspension that is designed to be driven when "slammed" is one thing. He just needs to lower the truck when entering or exiting it so the extreme camber and toe changes that come from bagging anything with I beams or TTB will have no negative consequences, other then how goofy it looks sitting in the parking lot. It can be done for WAY less then 10k. It should be as simple as fabbing up some bag mounts in place of the coils.
I've been looking around more, checking the yellow pages and craiglist and whatnot, but I don't think there is a shop in my area that specializes in suspension or 4wd. I'll probably throw something up in my state chapter to see if anybody knows of a shop or if they would be willing to help me work on it.
I'm kinda thinking that when parked, after getting out, I would probably air it back up so it wouldn't look so goofy lol.
And I'm aware there are vehicles out there that are already modified, but that isn't what I want...
