a little over a grand. Got it to pull my camper. Only had to deal with a leaky powersteering pump, and was only able to use the main tank the aux tank was inop at the time. didn't over heat at all. ran smooth the whole way.
Anybody tried a clutch fan instead of the direct drive one on the 400? On my newer trucks I put electric fans on, but on this old truck I wouldn't trust the alternator to run it, and don't really want to upgrade.

You could always do the 3g swap if your worried about that.

I've owned 2 trucks with that motor and both had clutch fans from the factory.
I've never had her on the highway but I'm assuming it would be worse actually because it would take a lot more from the motor to keep the lower gears turning at faster speeds. It doesn't have an overdrive.
