I need a little help with some final details on my engine replacement in my '97 F250, 4WD, 5-speed. I've been out in the barn removing parts and wires all night preparing to replace my 460 with the new one that just arrived from S&J. I have a couple of questions:
1. The only thing I can't disconnect is the dang fuel lines! How do they come off of the fuel rails? I pulled the retaining clips but can't pull the lines off.
2. Where is a good place to attach my chains on the rear of the engine? I've got good spots up front.
3. Is the oil pan going to hang up on the frame member or can I leave it on? I would prefer to swap everything over once it's out of the truck.
4. Should I replace my clutch even if it's relatively new?
5. Should I spring for new injectors too? I've pretty much spent all of my money but still need to do it right and don't want to be so cheap that I regret it later.
Thanks...
1 there is a tool that you insert in the coupling to release the spring that holds the lines together
2 i use a longer bolt in the intake manifold or a longer bolt in the exaust manifold to pull my motors
3 if you can get the transmission jacked up enough in the front you should be ok with the crossmember
4 if the clutch looks worn too bad i would replace atleast the friction disc
5 if your installing a complete motor then i would see how it runs when your done or put the injectors from the one you pull out if they were in good shape
Thanks! The fuel lines were a bit much for me at 1:00 am, engine all ready to remove but held in by 2 fuel lines! The truck was running fine when head gasket failed so I guess I'll re-use a lot off the old stuff.
