intermittent stalling F350
Have had crankshaft position sensors replaced twice and spent about $1,500 on other supposed fixes (checking wiring, especially underneath dashboard) that haven't worked. Over the years I have seen many different threads for this same problem and keep hoping I'm eventually going to see a Ford recall for it.
Last April on the first day as we were starting the trip from Arizona to BC it stalled 15 times over 30 min (running about 70MPH) then ran beautifully for the next 3 months. Sometimes we get check engine light and sometimes code P0320 and a few times P1406 but most times nothing. Sometimes hear relay clicking under dashboard if engine does a start/stall/start/stall on its own.
When we had the 15 time in a row at 70mph my wife was ready to jump out of the truck. It's a senior thing. And now she wants me to sell my most favourite truck ever.
Our mechanic is thinking about changing engine chip.
Am I also reading there is a Crankshaft Position sensor recall?
Many thanks for input
P0320 is : Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit Malfunction
We can safely assume that your issue is not distributor related.

Possible causes
- Ignition engine speed sensor harness circuit is open or shorted
- Ignition engine speed sensor poor electrical connection
- Faulty Ignition engine speed sensor
- Faulty Crankshaft Position sensor
- Low battery charge
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
I had an issue with one truck where it would stumble at the same bump, about 1/2 way up a hill I drove up every day to get home. I'd hit the spot and the truck would sputter and cough for about 5 seconds, then away we went. Replacing the battery cured it.
