driveshaft alignment

I recently swapped out the 292 y block out of my 64 f100 and installed an 89 5.0 and c4 trans, had a new two piece driveshaft made and have a bad shake, the front shaft is straigh out of the trans and the rear shaft is at a pretty good angle,i know the rearend should match that of the shaft, but the pinion is not centered in the truck. What do i do?Thanks

Stock engines are offset to the passenger side.

First, You have the drive shaft in two differing planes if you used aftermarket mounts that center the engine in the frame.

Second, is the crank on a parallel line relative to the rails?

Third, what is the down angle on the crank?

Fourth, Are the u joints in phase. This has to be done when using a 2 piece drive shaft.

Fifth, What is the up angle on the pinion center line. The pinion will rise on acceleration and the angle will change. This needs to be compensated for with shims.

Best diagram I could find here. Note the centerline of the engine and the axle have to be parallel.

Trans output shaft - slip yoke - u-joint - front driveshaft - driveshaft center support - slip yoke - u-joint - rear driveshaft - u-joint - companion flange on rear axle.

Center support bearing sealed, nose of slip yoke passes thru it, then slips onto splines of front driveshaft. When bearing goes bad, vibration will radiate thru entire vehicle.

Center slip yoke has a zerk (grease) fitting, how many people know that in todays world? When was the last time it saw a grease gun? Slip yoke scores, causing vibration.

Large U shaped rubber center support becomes soaked with oil, road grime, softens, becomes ovate, another cause of vibration.

Mis-matched flywheel/harmonic balancer, vibration results, will soon tear the center from the flywheel. Not pleasant!

When i put the 302 in i centered it off the mounting pad where the 292 front motor mount was and used a level on the carb pad to get the angle right.I don't have an angle finder so i don't know thw numbers.I will check the ujoint phasing this wknd, that should not be the issue as both front and rear shafts as well as the hanger bearing are new and custom made. Thanks for the diagram. Thanks for the help i'll post again as i get things figured out.

ND mentions the flywheel/flexplate--what did you use for a flexplate?

Carb pad may not be the best place to check. It may not be parallel to the crank, as many are tilted to compensate for engine tilt.

The end of the crank or trans output shaft is the only reliable point, as shown in that link.

The driveline shop should have marked the alignment for the ujoints. They balance it a unit.
