Ok guys I have a 2002 f150 4.2 code p0340, ran rough, replaced cam sensor. drove after replacing and it runs fine now, code and service engine light comes on after restarting. from what i have read could this be a wiring problem? any help would be great at this point, thanks!
Follow the operation.
The cam position sensor tells the computer when to fire the fuel injectors in the same order as the ignition but just a little ahead of ignition.
If your sure the motor runs ok, it may be an intermitant issue with the plug the harness, the new sensor or even the computer..
If you only changed the sensor on top and not moved the drive position, that rules out the setting.
I would first clear the code, then see if it comes back.
If yes then you have some testing to do on the wiring or replacing the sensor again.
You need to see 0 to 5 volts pulsinig between the dark green and the blue black leads as some one turns to motor over with a breaker bar on the crank. Ignition to run for the test.
If you don't see this action or it's not solid or missing, that's the issue causing the code.
Check a Haynes book page 6-11.
Good luck.
I found the problem with the wiring that was causing the cam sensor code. The red wire with yellow tracer at the fuse box under the hood was bad at the fuse crimp connection. thanks for your help..
