doesn't down shift

Was towing the trailer home this morning, goin up a fairly steep hill, pedal fairly close to the metal, truck shudders very briefly, never stalled or stopped, but it won't downshift anymore even pressed to the floor boards rpm's never go above 2200, isn't over heating, oil pressure appears normal. Any ideas? Tranny problems? Truck has 259,942 km's, changed filter and fluid late May 2012.
Thanks

Will the engine rev normally in park or neutral?

Fluid normal and doesn't smell burned, as far a revving in park and neutral, no it doesn't seem to rev normal, goes up somewhat and for lack of a better word seems to miss.

The wrench light is a BIG clue. We need the codes to help. I suspect it is an engine problem, not the transmission.

Need a Code reader that will read wrech light codes those are more dealer specific and not generic DTC

If it was a trans issue it would likely be a Bad Tourque Converter and it usualy Drags Engine RPM Down at Idel and will cause Shudder

But it Sounds to me like its an Engine Problem to Me To
If the truck seems to work Harder at Idel and wont rev up very much might have a Plugged Exhaust.

Can you Read EBP Sensor Values???

Might try to undo the Downpipe at back turbo the Exhaust pipe that runs out the Back the Truck start it up see if it runs Better

No I haven't read any values, I have a very good meter but have no idea of what any values should be. I did notice on friday, while I was hooking up trailer (I have a turbo back exhaust, no converter) it was sounding like a jet plane like normal, then it had a little rumble'burping ?? noise, then went right back to jet noise, with no converter, what could plug up? I was pushing it pretty hard while on that hill, boost was about 28 lbs. I looked for any hoses or wires to see if they were off, but found none, my son in law had a hose come off the turbo and the symptom was somewhat the same or not exact.
Thanks

I think the wrench light may be from an overboost.

so it was too much pedal to the metal? So a damaged turbo? I don't think its a plugged exhaust, but who knows?

The change in exhaust noise could be the PCM sweeping the vanes in the turbo if you have that flash. Mine does it all the time, but I have the latest flash.

The wrench light could be a defuel from high ECT/EOT delta's also. If you're relying strictly on factory gauges then basically you're "driving blind".

You really need to get something to read the wrench light codes to get a proper diagnosis. Anything else and we're just guessing.
